On June 27, 2017 my husband and myself went to Little shelter to see a dog for adoption. We loved the little guy and knew we should be his forever family. I must say the first meeting with one women staffer was not that pleasant. Having had dogs since 1962 of all breads from irish setters, malmute/huskies two previous labs over 46 years of marriage usually two at a time who lived to 13-14 years and rescues we are experienced. The women basically made my husband retired school teacher myself retired nurse 4 grown children, 6 grandkids and 4 grand dogs to be morons I wanted to smack her!. On a positive note we went back with our dog for meet and greet with staffer Jon who was amazing and came home with our Barley. Please disregard any negative comments I have seen posted here. Little shelter is a wonderful adoption place and takes in nurses back to health dogs from town shelters. My Barley suffered an attack of acute Pancreatitis after his adoption and took care of the entire bill. I have witnessed first hand how great little shelter is. Doreen Fiore Saint James N.Y

I've adopted 2 dogs from this shelter. The first in 2003. She turned out to be the love of my life. After 13 yrs I had to send her to heaven, & 2 weeks later I adopted a senior boy. Have had him almost 5 months & he's a cutie too. I never had any problems with the adoption process or the staff. They will make sure your potential pet gets along with other pets you may have, or they let you know if your potential pet needs to be the only one. My senior boy had medical issues which were all taken care of, & his follow-up care was free. I plan on getting another dog from them. And kudos to them for saving 10 dogs that would have been slaughtered in Korea. Maybe one of them is meant to come live a great life with me. I highly recommend adopting from them.

I had a bad experience at little shelter and will never try to adopt nor send them a donation ever. This happened close to 10 years ago but still bothers me. I went to the shelter attempting to adopt 1 or 2 cats or kittens. After seeing all the beautiful felines waiting for a home I happily selected two. After filling out a ton of paperwork, I was told that because I rent they would need to speak to the landlord. I live in a large complex and I said I doubted anyone would call back regarding the adoption of a cat. I offered to show them a copy of my lease specifically stating that cats but not dogs were welcome. I also offered to show them the website of the complex saying cats were permitted. They were totally unreasonable and said I couldn't adopt unless they spoke to the leasing company. fortunately my story has a happy ending. I adopted the two best cats in the world from a shelter in Port Jeff. I want to add that at the time I was 40 years old, not some kid. Why would I possibly adopt a cats knowing that I might have to return them. Ridiculous!

The staff was very helpful and personable. Our dog was completely up to date on his shots and neutered. I put in the application to adopt him, and we were approved in just a day. I would adopt from Little Shelter again in a heartbeat after having such a great experience.

So I adopted a dog from this place back in December . Me and my family were aware that the dog has been adopted out before for 6 weeks. They gave us some bs story n couldn't get there facts straight about the dog cause when I read the documents on her , it stated a different story about her previous adoption including a round about age . Which the people at the shelter told us she was alittle over a year and the papers said around 2 years . Let me tell you this dog tried to attack all of us . When I mean attack , this dog wanted to kill. We had her for 1 day and the dog acted like she had rabies . We had to call someone out from the shelter to come get her . They then told us they weren't going to sell her again but yet she is still up on their adoption page . The dogs name is Gloria . She is a German Shepard mix .i would recommend no one get this dog .
